What will I do on this course?
The course aims to teach you scientific principles and how to work in a laboratory situation with both chemicals and live organisms. This is a practically based course with the underpinning scientific theory being taught at an academic level. The full course comprises of 6 units - pupils will study 3 in Year 13 and the final 3 in Year 14.

- Learn to use a range of practical techniques used in science such as the analysis of substances, the separation of substances & the use of instruments/ sensors.
- Understand how laboratories are designed, how information is stored in laboratory information management and how to work safely in a scientific workplace. - Gain the knowledge and skills that an employee in the science industry needs to be an effective, efficient and safe member of a team. - Investigate the quantities necessary in chemical reactions, the structure and functions of cells, the calorific value of different fuels. - Develop the practical techniques necessary to pursue a career as a laboratory technician. - Develop skills in communicating scientific information. |
